Hannover Re continues supporting the InsurTech ecosystem
Our good friends at InsTech London have recently published a fascinating, wide-ranging interview with Debbie O'Hare, MD at Hannover Re's UK Life Branch. If you haven't seen it, it's worth reading.
This interview is especially dear to our hearts. Debbie shared the stories of two innovation programmes that Hannover Re had run here in Dublin: the 2016 Journey Re entrepreneurship programme and 2019's intrapreneurship programme at Dogpatch Labs. InsurTech Ireland supported the latter, mentoring and guiding Hannover Re teams to convert ideas into fleshed-out concepts. These low profile but high impact initiatives run from Dublin should come as no surprise for the reader because Hannover Re has always been an active player in the Irish InsurTech scene. You may recall Kathrin Scherff, the Hannover Re Ireland CEO, sharing her thoughts with us during the ITC World Tour last Autumn. And in addition to being a generous supporter of our events, Dogpatch Labs provides a home to several InsurTech startups.
We are hoping that this positive trend continues. Hannover Re is the world's third-largest reinsurance company, joined in Ireland by a broad cohort of global insurance and reinsurance players. Dogpatch Labs, supported by its partner hubs in Cork, Kerry and Galway, has been recently awarded the €17m contract to manage the National Digital Research Centre service for the next five years. Are we going to see more activity in the InsurTech space in Ireland? Time will tell.
